Training in US – Two Clinical Fellowships
Advanced surgical training is one of the clearest indicators of a specialist’s ability to handle complex, high-risk cases with precision. My own training journey took me across two of the most respected fellowship programs in the United States, and it continues to shape the way I approach patient care today.
I have the honour of being the first collaborative fellow from AIMS (Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences) to the prestigious Roswell Park Cancer Institute, where I trained in advanced head and neck oncology surgery alongside surgeons who handle a high volume of complex malignancies each year.
Additionally, I achieved the remarkable feat of being recognized as the first Fellow and the first Indian for the esteemed Otology & Neurotology Fellowship at the University of Cincinnati. This training focused specifically on the ear, hearing preservation, skull base surgery, and neurotologic conditions — an area of ENT that demands a very different, highly specialized skill set from general otolaryngology.
Breaking Barriers
Being selected for both programs meant bridging the gap between institutions across two continents and fostering a genuine exchange of knowledge and expertise. This exchange enriched my own surgical skills and opened a pathway for future collaborative fellowships between Indian institutions and leading American centers of excellence.
Distinguished Achievement
Through consistent dedication, exceptional surgical skill, and an unmatched passion for the field, I achieved the distinction of being the first Fellow and the first Indian to be honoured with an Otology-Neurotology fellowship from the University of Cincinnati. This wasn’t simply a personal milestone — it reflected years of rigorous training, countless hours in the operating room, and a genuine commitment to mastering some of the most technically demanding procedures in ENT surgery.

Training abroad should not be seen as an exception reserved for a few — it should become a more common and accessible path for ambitious young surgeons in India.
My decision to return and contribute to the advancement of my areas of excellence in my home country reflects a deep-rooted desire to give back to my fellow citizens. Every skill, technique, and piece of knowledge gained through these fellowships now directly benefits the patients who trust me with their care here at home — bridging world-class training with accessible, local treatment.
